Treatment Centres
Centres are located countrywide and can be contacted through the hospitals boards or via
reception during normal working hours.
Centres were established between 2004 and 2007 in response to a growing demand by patients
and doctors for a dedicated brachytherapy facility.

|
Teams of medical specialists, nuclear physicists and nursing
staff, underwent a period of intense training in brachytherapy under the
supervision of international and local trainers. The centres continue to work
in close collaboration with international experts. State of the art equipment
is used to enable the most modern techniques of procedure planning and
treatment delivery. Sophisticated computer programs check every step of the
treatment and to monitor on a real time basis, exactly how much radiation
treatment has been delivered into the prostate.
Patients have the advantage of being under the supervised care of an entire
team. A specialist urologist, as well as a radiation oncologist, who is a
cancer specialist specifically trained in the use of radiation to treat
different types of cancer participate in patient evaluation and counseling,
treatment planning, and then work as a team in theatre to ensure an optimal
procedure.
|
|
The various teams have committed themselves to working closely
with leading international experts, and several visits a year are scheduled for
internationally renowned specialists to visit the centres to conduct updates,
discuss treatment refinement, and individual cases. Collaboration and ongoing
international training support for local medical specialists ensures that the
centres deliver state of the art medical care to its patients.

What is required for a patient to be seen at a Brachytherapy
Center?
Prostate cancer screening or check-ups are done at the centres and simply require
an appointment with the attending urologist. Should a patient already have
prostate cancer then a visit to one of the centres for an evaluation is advisable to
decide whether a patient is a candidate for brachytherapy or not. The doctors
may advise further investigation, or alternative treatment to brachytherapy, or
combination treatment. In all cases, detailed discussion pertaining to the
diagnosis and possible treatment options, is the patients right, and these
rights will be respected.
